Let the Spirit of God Lead “Your Way”

Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7 NIV

Lead the Way

World travelers testify to the value of a guide when they go on hikes or excursions. They’ve often been the difference between life and death when things go wrong. In today’s verse, Jesus’ disciples were reacting to the news that their Savior, their guide, would soon be leaving them. They were feeling alone, powerless and afraid.

But before Christ left he promised them that a Counselor would come. The Greek translation for the word Counselor means “the one to stand by you in a time of trouble.” For the early followers of Jesus, distressing days were ahead. But they did not face their challenges alone or in hopeless despair.

Today you may see difficult times ahead at work, or perhaps you’re seeking employment. Be encouraged!  Any area of life that we are experiencing trouble is a place to put your confidence in the Spirit to lead you.

  1. The Counselor, your guide, is always standing by you and
  2. He will be your help.

Today’s One Thing
Ask God to lead the way on your next big journey in your professional career, or any decisions to be made that will lead to tomorrow’s victories.

A Baby Born to Save Us All

I find it amazing that the King of Kings was born in a stable where the smells were less than glorious.
Why would God stoop down that low and allow the birth of His Son to be in such a place?

I believe there are a number of reasons for this beginning:

Many people had come from afar to Bethlehem because of the census that Caesar Augustus had ordered.  It was not optional and even Mary, being great with child, did not have the option to stay home.  God definitely wanted to control who was invited to the birth of His Son.  Bethlehem was bustling like a Mall at Christmas Time.  So many people were there and being so great with child, Joseph and Mary were probably among the last to arrive since they had to take the trip slower than most.  So, of course, the Inn was full when they finally did arrive.  But this was God’s plan all along.

When you become a dad for the first and only time, you only want people at the birth who you have chosen.  At the Inn, many people could have just dropped in on Mary and Joseph’s room after she had the baby.  But God wanted to do His own inviting to this Most Amazing Event that was heralded by a Great Company of Angels singing in Luke 2:8-15.  The entire event is told in Luke 2:1-52.  God was so excited at the birth of His Son that even Heaven was bursting with the news of Jesus’s birth.  And God sent His angels to announce the birth of His Son to the shepherds out in the field watching their flocks by night.  That later would be Jesus’ profession, a shepherd of the lost sheep of the Earth needing to be guided home again.  Animals and shepherds were the invitees to this glorious event on the Earth and in the sky a host of angels were encamped around beholding God’s only son.

Jesus is also called the Lamb of God in John 1:29, 36.   Where would you expect a lamb to be born? In the Inn or out with the other animals?  Jesus would soon enough take on the role described in the Old Testament of a spotless innocent lamb to be sacrificed for the sins of the guilty people so that they could be atoned for in the eyes of a perfect God.  Oh how precious was that first night to God!

This Earth is unclean and God stooped down from the glory of a pure Heaven to be born in this messed up place to seek and save those that are lost.  How profound is that?  Only God could and would write a story like  that!  And if God would send His perfect Son  from Heaven to a troubled planet full of death and corruption called Earth, this is the demonstration of what God the Father did to seek and save you.  The Bible calls this LOVE.  This is where the LOVE of God began his work.

When Herod found out that the Wise Men came to see this new born “King of the Jews”,  he was furious to find out that someone would soon take his place. So he sent to have all the male children under 2 years old put to death.  The devil has had all people under his control since the Fall of Adam and was not happy that the Son of God, announced by the Wise Men, was here to possibly somehow reverse the curse that Satan had brought over all mankind through spiritual and physical death.  Adam and Eve were no match for Satan but the Son of God–He was another story altogether!  THE BATTLE WAS ON!

Herod figured killing all the male children would take care of his problem before “this child” could grow up.  But God…..
That is all you need to defeat the devil in every area of your life.  When you even think if a problem that you seem to be in a battle with, always remember to include at the end of your thinking and speaking “But God…”  God and you can defeat the devil at every turn and God is serious about getting involved in every battle you are facing both now and in the future.  Let’s see how this battle went with Jesus to see how our’s is going to go.

Jesus grew in wisdom and stature with God and man.  After Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist, then came the temptations by the Devil, himself, to cause Jesus to sin and become subject to him also just as Adam had done.  But as we read in Luke 4, Jesus did not take the bait that Satan offered, and He remained true to God the Father.  Then Jesus’ public ministry began.  As is written in Luke 4:18-19 Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

And this began his ministry and for the next 3 1/2 years he did many mighty works (just for fun read Luke 4:1-44, Luke 51-39).
Satan became so furious that he knew the only way to stop Jesus was to put together a scheme to kill him.  But little did Satan know that Jesus took our place in dying as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” John 1:29.  And that is just what Jesus did.  Then he went to Hell on our behalf for 3 days, and then He was risen from the dead!  Why, because he had to pay our sin debt, our Hell debt, (yes our Hell debt–that is the consequences for even one sin committed by you or me) and yet he had done nothing wrong! God placed our sin on Jesus as our innocent sacrificial lamb, and God took Jesus’ right standing before God and placed it on us.  Christianity is known as the Great Exchange.  Oh what a wonderful Savior!  When God raised him from the dead, we were raised from the dead.  Oh YES, and I will have to explain that later, but a good place to see this is in Ephesians 2:4-9.

So now Death has been fully paid for by Jesus, and defeated on our behalf!  We have so much to rejoice about both at Christmas (his birth) and at Easter (his resurrection).  He did for us a perfect work, and now there is not any work of the devil that can keep you from this loving God that Jesus came to demonstrate to us.  Call out to Jesus and you will find “His Peace” given to you as a gift this Christmas. Just like the book says, “Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men.”  That’s why Jesus came!  Sing those songs about Christ from your heart this Christmas Season.  He is listening for even one voice who wants to rejoice in what he has done for each and everyone of us.

What is the Change that Christmas is Bringing to You?

It’s Time to wake up…

Out of Fear and into FAITH.
Out of Discouragement and into HOPE.
Out of Guilt and into FREEDOM.
Out of Worry and into PEACE.
Out of Distractions and into PURPOSE.
Out of Selfishness and into LOVE.
Out of Bitterness and into FORGIVENESS.
Out of Comparison and into knowing your identity in CHRIST.
Out of Weariness and into GOD’S STRENGTH.

And God has brought all these things in a very small package of a child that was born, a Son that was given.

Oh yes, take time to take note of the wonder of how God sent Salvation to this world through an infant, born through a virgin, and grew up completely the full purpose of His life here on Earth—to save that which was lost–us.

Merry Christmas

And even as we ponder these things, God is waiting to make Himself known to you too.
Give Him an invitation to come into your Life, for He waits for you to call on Him!

How is that script of Your Fairy Tale Coming Along?

Saga #1

These are some powerful ideas of how to write your own Fairy Tale so the end comes out right.  We are our own life’s movie producer.  What have I written on my script lately?

Users, Losers, and Abusers

These are the people that have to be cut out of our lives immediately!  Aren’t we all trying to write our own fairy tale that ends in the statement, “And they lived happily ever after!”  So a good way to start is to cut all the drains of your time, money, emotional energy out!  Yes, this is your story that you are writing and if you allow all this stuff in your life then you can forget about the happy ending coming to pass.

A friend of mine had a husband that was nothing more than a user, loser, and abuser.  She knew her life would not get better until she cut him lose to drain somebody else.  Believe me, I have seen many styles of leeching.  But the hardest ones to deal with are the ones we are related to.  They smile, act pleasant, act like they care as they clean out our pocketbooks with their many tales of “Life is rough.”  They don’t want to grow up.  They would rather convince you that you could help them, and next week you can help them, and next month you can help them.

CUT, CUT, CUT.

Even a movie producer only plays that scene once to show the watcher that this leech has to go.  And then the rest of the movie the audience is waiting for the leech to get the axe, meaning cut off from all funds to stop their irresponsibility from infecting people who are doing it right.

In order for your life to turn out good, here are some things to consider:

1. Consider receiving Jesus as your Lord

Question:  Who is your everyday LORD?  This makes a big difference in Life and where are you going to spend eternity.  This is the most important issue to work out in your life.

The Bible says, “Christ was delivered for our offenses, and raised again for our justification,” That settles every thing.  The moment we believe the Gospel, we are saved, and out to be divinely happy.
“He that believes on the Son has everlasting life.”  (Romans 4, 5; John 3)

2. Cut the people who drain you of time, money, and energy so that the rest of your life is available for you to profit from in all ways.

3. When you mean business about writing your own Life History then you will see that life is to short to try and please everybody.  Do what God says to do, and bless all the others with their freedom to make something of their own lives–either positive or negative.

Is Freedom of Choice really our Desire?

When our mind goes to a place that somebody owes us something, we have taken away their free will choices.  For example a friend of yours owns a car lot–let’s say it is a Honda dealership.  Since you are their friend, are you obligated in any way to buy a Honda?  Obviously, no.  Let’s say that you are going to buy a Honda, are you obligated to check out your friend’s dealership’s pricing at any point in your shopping for a car?  Once again, no.

We, as humans, have a tendency to think in ways that are against how God has set things up.  Freedom of choice is how God makes us personally accountable for most of what goes on in our lives.  Even the world has a saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  Do we make lemonade from some of the raw deals that we are dealt in our lives?

This entire journey that each of us experiences on planet Earth is nothing more than a TEST.  How are you doing as each test comes your way?

If someone asks me to get married, should I feel obligated just because we have gone out with each other for 4 years?  No.  Freedom of choice is truly an act of love.

To not control others gives you the ability to just control yourself.  Temperance, otherwise known as self-control is a fruit of the Spirit of God.

Galatians 5:22-25 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

So please respect everybody’s freedom of choice so that we can model the love of God in our behavior.

Sometimes that will require us to make some very painful choices in order to honor other people’s freedom of choice.  Can you want the best for somebody you love even if it costs you?  I am not talking dollars.  Many people control others with their money, or gifts.  Let’s ask God to reveal our own hearts to us because we do deceive ourselves–more often than we think.
